THE SOUL BUDDY SAGA . . . how this book came to be
When Theo launched his plan to help people understand the transition called "death,"
he enlisted three soul buddies to help him.
he enlisted three soul buddies to help him.
Soul Buddies: Theo Molli Nickell Norma Hughes Gary Lund
Then, Theo set the plan in motion being born into physical life and eventually becoming a prolific author (writing under the name of Dr. Seuss).
33 years later , , ,
Molli came into life, grew up in Southern California, surfed her way through high school and college, became a Time-Life editor, and eventually, a publisher of "spiritual psychology."
She teamed with Oscar-winning artist Gary Lund and her husband Glenn to create SPIRIT SPEAKS magazine, which shared spiritual guidance on life issues like health, success, love, families, raising children etc., as viewed through the prism of spiritual psychology.
Then, two years after Theo's physical death, Molli received a manuscript with detailed descriptions of the art for each page. As she read it, Molli faintly remembered agreeing to publish Theo's book which chronicled his journey from life as a physical human being on Earth to life as a non-physical being in Heaven.
Inspired by the book, Molli knew that millions of Theo's readers would experience “oh-my goodness” realizations that he continued to exist and create books, not much different than when he was in a physical body on Earth.
Theo's book makes the case . . .
for the ongoing-ness of life and demonstrates that communication twixt heaven and Earth can enlighten and entertain at the same time.
When Molli agreed to fulfill her "cosmic civic duty" and partner with her buddies to serve all of humanity, she declared that she also would use the upcoming life opportunity to learn to live fearlessly.
NOTE: About goal setting . . .
This is a vital step in soul evolution. Before physical birth, souls select goals that will help them better understand about free will and choice. The last step before physical birth is to pass through the Valley of Forgetfulness so that we completely forget our plans.
You may think it’s stupid to establish life goals and then immediately forget them. Actually, it’s quite brilliant. If you knew the outcome of your life up front, you might decide to hang out on the Good Ship Lollipop and play beer pong instead of zestfully participating in the life you had selected.
As Planned, Theo . . .
authored book after book after book to reach worldwide sales of over ONE Billion books. Then, after he departed physical life, he set up shop on the 7th floor of Earth's Grand Hotel.
Molli began her physical life by being born into a family that included a vengeful older sibling who assisted her in falling out of trees, off garage roofs, and down stairwells, thereby keeping fear alive in her daily life. Despite the challenges, she (with the help of more than a few guardian angels) survived to adulthood.
Her study of metaphysics expanded into launching a magazine, Spirit Speaks. Readership expanded to 100,000+ per issue worldwide.
When she read Theo's manuscript, she recognized the voice of the beloved storyteller whose books she'd learned to read when she was a child and had read to her own children and much later, to her grandchildren: creating a three-generation Theo fan club.

However . . .
Before Molli could begin the lengthy and involved process of publishing EARTH'S GRAND HOTEL, she faced a major decision about her publishing business. The costs of printing, paper, soy-based inks, and postage had risen 300%. She might have to limit the amount of spiritual psychology in the magazine as she added more advertisers in order to remain in business or . . ?
Molli decided to offer EARTHS GRAND HOTEL to Random House, the company which had published Theo's work when he was known by a slightly different name. She assumed they would be eager to continue reaping the financial benefits from one of their best selling authors.
Holy Moly . . .
Molli was totally surprised when the publisher unleashed the attorneys from hell who threatened lawsuits galore against every single person associated with the project if they dared to use the name Dr. Seuss in any books they published.
Shocked by their reaction, Molli pondered what might happen if she became the target of costly law suits. (Unfortunately she was so unnerved that she forget the media love of "banned in Boston" situations. She forgot about the fact that this type of publicity could capture media attention and sell zillions of Theo's book (s) as it informed gadzillions of people about the real purpose of death.) She became mired in fear over what might happen if she failed to fulfill her cosmic civic duty to participate in the project originally planned with her soul buddies who were counting on her.
And so, to avoid having to deal with what might happen Molli became totally pissed off at God for not warning her about wasting fifteen years of her life traveling down a dead-end street. She slammed and locked the door of SPIRIT SPEAKS publishing company.
“I quit. I’m through with 16-hour days and non-ending deadlines. I'm going to join a senior triathlon swimming team, coach writers, play with puppies, take naps, read every book by John Grisham, Deane Koontz, and Ernest Hemingway, go out for lunch with friends, travel with my husband, play with our grandchildren, etc., etc., etc. I’m going to live like a normal human being. The heck with this spiritual stuff. It probably isn’t real anyway."
Staying true to her Irish tendency toward bullheadedness . . .
Molli stomped away from her promise to be a part of Theo's team.

Molli stomped away from her promise to be a part of Theo's team.
However, Theo refused to give up on her. In honor of St. Patrick’s Day, he wrote a story about GREEN which Molli pinned on her bulletin board and occasionally (every other year or so) would read. She'd become overwhelmed with sadness, guilt, anger, and fear. Instead of dealing with these emotions (an avoidance habit she had developed over her lifetime) , she'd stick GREEN right back on the bulletin board.

But then, one afternoon, 30 years after abandoning her chosen life's work, Molli felt an irresistible urge to dig through storage boxes of SPIRIT SPEAKS’ correspondence.
Hours later, her husband asked, "What 'cha looking for?" She replied, "I won’t know until I find it. Will you please, please mix me a strong gin and tonic . . . like right now?"
Eventually, she found the box crammed with notes and memos and letters that Theo had transmitted via Norma Hughes. She also discovered the business plan for a book series that had been discussed almost three decades earlier.
Molli was astounded at how thoroughly she’d managed to forget everything planned with Theo, Norma, and Gary.
Inspired by Theo and the Dr. Seuss books . . .
Molli poured over every document, every note, every scrap of paper and became re-infused with love and admiration for Theo and her Soul Buddies and felt boundless enthusiasm to fulfill her agreed-upon cosmic civic duty and bring EARTH'S GRAND HOTEL to life.
She reassembled the team. However, by that time, Norma had departed from physical life, and was working with Theo on the 7th floor of Heaven. The planet Earth portion of the team now consisted of Gary and Molli.

Uncertain if they could transition from magazines to books . . .
